Why am I back?
I've gotten this question a lot the last month or so. Truly, I don't have a good answer for it.
A few different people kept messaging me about restoring SSForum or a forum like it for the game, and how they missed a central active site and forum system. I had been missing coding and programming, but didn't really find any other games that I felt interested in doing that for. During a long fight with pneumonia that had me mostly just resting when I wasn't at work, I began digging through some of my old hard drives and directories, feeling a bit nostalgic. The steroids I was prescribed caused a panic attack and I am still trying to fight off anxiety (I'm normally a chill, relaxed person), so I turned to distracting my mind with 3D printing, lasering, and coding a simple script for a friend's clan's page. Suddenly, I got another message asking me if I ever played SS still. Then mentioning they missed the forums, etc.
I decided that if I could put the forums back together, with some self-sustainable scripts for files and such, then maybe I'd feel accomplished. I launched a VPS on Vultr, renewed my Invision license from 2014, and well here we are. Granted I found Invision had changed FAR too much and we are now on phpBB, but that just makes things even more self-sustainable. I may even be able to step the server down a level from $40/mo to $30/mo, where I would barely notice it on my credit card statement. I purchased TheMMOG.com for 3yrs, set SSForum.net to re-up for 3yrs next renewal, and renewed SSDownloads.com for 3 years. All guarantees this will be here for at least the next 3 years.
I am not sure what the future holds. Other than restoring SSDL to our files section and bringing back a few pages that were highly visited on SSCentral/SS.Net, I have no real plans. I hope the community finds this useful and drives me to continue to expand it.
Maybe there is a good answer after all.

Re: Why am I back?
I'm sure I speak for the rest of the community when I say that I'm very appreciative of the work you've done restoring this forum and SSDownloads. I also recently returned after a long break for about 10-15 years. I think we all started playing Subspace from such a young age that we kind of grew up with this game. It's nice to see all the old players, new players, and players from a variety of zones(mostly dead
) come together to help keep this game going.
Welcome back, Polix.
